Reusable nappy rebate
Why choose reusable cloth nappies
1.5 billion nappies end up in landfill across Australia each year. It’s estimated that they take between 150 and 500 years to break down.
Like anything that isn’t single use, reusable cloth nappies are generally a much better option for the environment.
About the residential reusable cloth nappy rebate
To encourage parents and guardians in our community to make the switch from disposable nappies to reusable ones, Council will now offer a rebate of up to 50% or $100 (whichever is lower) on receipt of any reusable nappies purchased from 1 October 2023.
How to apply for the rebate
Step 1 - find out if you are eligible
- Are you a resident of Tweed Shire?
- Have you purchased reusable nappies after 30 September 2023
- Is the product/ or product inserts purchased made from cotton terry or flannelette cotton, hemp, bamboo or a blend of these fibres?
Please note: Council understands that many reusable nappies come with waterproof polyester outer shells/covers along with inserts made of more natural fibres as mentioned above. If you purchase a reusable nappy that comes with a polyester outer shell this product will still qualify for a rebate if you answer Yes to all of the above questions.
If you answered Yes to all of these, then you are eligible to apply for the rebate.
Step 2 - complete the online application form
Check the terms and conditions on the application form.
You will need to scan or copy the receipts or paid invoices and attach them to your form.

Frequently asked questions
How does the rebate work?
Once you’ve bought your reusable nappies, head to the online nappy rebate form.
You will be able to receive up to 50% or $100 (whichever is lower) on receipt of any reusable nappies purchased from 1 October 2023.
You will be asked to list the brand, material (usually of the inserts e.g.: cotton, hemp, bamboo, etc.), where you purchased the nappies from and the date of your purchase.
Then simply upload your receipt/s to your form and tell us which account you want your rebate paid into.
Our team will process your request within 2 weeks.
What about if I buy biodegradable nappies? Do they qualify for the rebate?
No, the rebate is only for reusable cloth nappies. While most biodegradable disposable nappies are better for the environment than regular disposable nappies, they still take many years to break down in landfill. Reusable nappies are the best option.
What if I bought my disposable nappy products before 1 October 2023?
Only products bought after 30 September 2023 qualify for the rebate.
I’m a Tweed resident but I bought the nappies outside of the area, does that matter?
No. While we fully encourage you to buy from a local supplier, we understand that isn't always possible.
What if I bought my disposable nappies online?
No. If the products you purchase qualify as above, and you have answered Yes to all the other questions, then you will receive the rebate.
How many times can I claim the nappy rebate?
You can only claim the nappy rebate once. That is, one rebate per Tweed resident.
