How to help in the community
Donations management for Tropical Cyclone Alfred
We’re urging people who want to help communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred to NOT DROP OFF or SEND donations to impacted regions, as unrequested donations can hinder recovery efforts.
If you wish to help, please visit the GIVIT website to see exactly what’s needed. GIVIT has been contracted by the NSW Government to manage donations of essential goods and services for people impacted by disasters, ensuring that individuals receive exactly what they need, when they need it.
While we are not yet in recovery mode, we are planning ahead in case the Tweed is affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred. We encourage communities impacted by the cyclone NOT to accept or store unsolicited donations, as these can disrupt recovery efforts. The NSW Government has partnered with GIVIT to oversee donations of essential goods and services. GIVIT will ensure people get exactly what they need, when they need it.

Donating money instead of goods gives people the flexibility to choose what they need, helping them recover in a way that works best for them. It also ensures support goes exactly where it's needed most.
It also circulates money in affected communities, which stimulates a quicker recovery for the local economy.
When safe to do so, please assist family, friends, neighbours, groups and organisations you are already connected with.

Consider connecting with local organisations or charities:
Volunteering before or during an emergency
You can be involved with an emergency through roles such as firefighting, rescue or storm recovery, or through support roles like catering, communications and transport.
If you become a volunteer before an emergency happens, you will be contacting the organisation when they have time to answer your questions, evaluate your request and offer training. During an emergency this may not be possible.
To find out more about emergency volunteering, visit the Emergency Volunteering page on the NSW Government website.
