Council’s doors set to open to customers again

Customer service counters open on Monday 15 June

Tweed Shire Council’s customer service centres at Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah will reopen for face-to-face services on Monday 15 June 2020.

Opening hours for front counters will be changed slightly to 9am to 4pm, however Council will still be available by phone, social media, email and webchat between 8.30am and 4.30pm (Monday to Friday), as has been the case throughout the past few months.

As part of a three-month trial to support the re-opening of services in a COVID Safe environment, there will be some changes to the way Council provides planning, building and environmental health advice, which will now only available between 9am – 12pm Monday to Friday.

In the coming weeks, Council will trial an appointment-based system for planning and technical advice. Customers seeking advice on planning, building or environmental health matters will be able to book an appointment either over the phone, in person (Murwillumbah only) or virtual appointments and have the option to attend the Tweed Heads office to phone or virtually connect to the Murwillumbah office if required.

Mayor of Tweed Katie Milne expressed her gratitude to the Tweed community and customers for their patience and understanding during this time.

“We will re-open our two customer service centres with a range of measures that will support the safety of our staff and customers and we ask customers to please respect physical distancing requirements and follow all entry requirements to our workspaces,” Cr Milne said.

“Council has adapted our services as part of our COVID response – including launching the new webchat service - and this means we have had to modify ways in which we deliver face-to-face and walk-in services.

“I’m sure our customers will appreciate the safety measures that have been put in place,” she said.

In line with COVID-19 restrictions and precautions Council is:

• Limiting the number of customers in the customer service spaces to 10 at one time

• Providing hand sanitiser for customer use (before and after we serve you)

• Wiping benches and EFTPOS machines after each use and additional cleaning of the customer spaces.

It will be great to welcome customers back but we ask that you:

• Don’t visit if you have cold or flu symptoms

• Stay 1.5 metres away from others

• Use card payments where possible

• Use your own pen

• Avoid paperwork unless essential
