Tweed Regional Gallery prepares to re-open to the public

The Gallery will re-open with new precautionary measures introduced

Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is preparing to re-open to the public with a focus on the health and safety of everyone at the Gallery, including visitors, staff and volunteers.

The plans for re-opening will put in place new measures that will ensure the Gallery is a safe place to visit and work. This will include limiting visitor numbers while COVID restrictions are in place through free, timed tickets that can be purchased online and ensuring that strict physical distancing and recommended hygiene measures are followed.

From Wednesday 3 June 2020, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of exhibitions in the flesh – some for the first time – including ‘Double Vision: Euan Macleod & Ron McBurnie’ which was scheduled to open on 20 March. (Please note changed information from previous media release).

Since temporarily closing the Gallery as a precautionary measure on 17 March to slow the spread of COVID-19, the Gallery was quick to present their exhibitions and programs in a digital format, including video tours, online art activities, the Border Art Prize online exhibition catalogue, and the #YourHomeStudio campaign, which encourages artists to share their home studio and the art they are creating during this period of physical distancing. The Gallery is also in the process of planning other digital programs that they can host while restrictions are slowly eased.

“Providing access to our collection and exhibitions, and sharing the ideas of artists is at the heart of what we do at the Gallery,” Gallery Director Susi Muddiman OAM said.

“We are thrilled to be able to re-connect artists and audience onsite and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to our physical venues.”

The Gallery will continue to be guided by the State and Federal Goverments and Tweed Shire Council based on expert public health advice, as well as liasing with other art institutions to determine best practice during COVID restrictions.
