Take a virtual tour of the Tweed Regional Museum

A new way to discover local history from home

The Tweed Regional Museum in Murwillumbah may have temporarily closed its doors but that doesn't mean we need to miss out on discovering local history.

A day at the museum has gone online with a virtual tour that simulates a visit to the Murwillumbah attraction by giving a digital view of its current exhibitions.

The virtual tour gives users a taste of the rich displays available for the community to enjoy when the Museum opens again.

The tour is part of Council's Together Tweed initiative and is designed to keep the community connected to discovering local history during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Visitors can ‘click’ their way through the 1915 building and explore the displays, including the new Land | Life | Culture exhibition which opened just weeks before the pandemic closure.

“We’ve designed the virtual tour so you can sit back with your isolation buddies and your favourite beverage and learn something new about your local community from the comfort of your own home,” Museum Director Judy Kean said.

"It's not the same as visiting us – which we hope you will do again - but it gives you a taste of the rich displays you’ll be able to enjoy when we reopen.

"The new Land | Life | Culture exhibition in particular, which opened just weeks before we closed, is a great opportunity to discover unique cultural, biological, and geological stories that shape life in the Tweed Valley, she said.
