Council caring for our community

Launching the Together Tweed campaign

Council has developed an emergency dashboard specific to COVID-19 to help connect the community and businesses to all the official information, support and advice that is available from governments at local, state and federal levels.

Mayor of Tweed Katie Milne said there is so much information out there it can be very hard to keep up with all the changes. To help our community we have collated all this information on a dedicated page on Council’s website.

All the public health orders, border closures, funding and financial supports, community services, including local contact numbers, are listed for easy access.

We also feature our not-to-be-missed online local cultural and exercise programs to help us stay connected and healthy physically and mentally.

“Ideas to stay connected in your own street, in your own suburb and online are popping up all over the place and it’s wonderful to see the community spirit coming out so strongly,” Cr Milne said.

“We know the Tweed community is resilient, we’ve been through tough times together before and we will get through these trying times together again,” she said.

Community support services program

Council provides a linking role between the businesses and community organisations which service the Tweed.

“Being connected can help with anxiety, however if you need to talk to someone specifically there are a number of organisations that are providing assistance during this time so please reach out. Details can be found through our COVID-19 dashboard,” Cr Milne said.

“The community has done such a fantastic job at keeping the cases low but it’s important to keep staying safe and looking after each other – we can only do this if we do it all together,” she said.

Council also is working with the Tweed Community Resilience Network to gather information on COVID-19 impacts affecting local service providers and community. The Tweed Community Resilience Network membership includes representatives from service organisations, business and community associations with a focus on local emergency events.
