Rain delays Marine Parade rebuild
12 February 2020
Work zone will head south, block by block
Rain has delayed the start of work to rebuild a lengthy section of Marine Parade, Kingscliff.
Work had been scheduled to start on Monday, 17 February however the contractor undertaking the works has been delayed by rain.
The contractor will give Council one week’s notice of the new start date.
An electronic message board will be placed on Marine Parade to advise motorists and residents of the start of works when they are scheduled.
The work to stabilise Marine Parade involves milling off the old asphalt surface. Soft spots in the road substructure will then be repaired by mixing cement into the underlying gravel material and re-compacting the road base. A waterproofing seal will then be applied to the exposed gravel surface, followed by the final asphalt seal.
Residents are advised that this work can be quite noisy.
The work will be undertaken block by block, starting at Wommin Bay Road and moving south to just beyond Beach Street.
Each block of Marine Parade will be fully closed to traffic and street parking during work hours as the worksite travels south.
Residents and holiday park visitors will be allowed access through the worksite to enter and exit driveways but through-motorists and beachgoers will be directed to alternate routes through detours.
Residents should expect mostly short delays to get in and out of driveways. However, once the cement mix is added and watered in, they should expect long delays as the job cannot be shut down until compaction is complete. The contractors will advise residents ahead of starting this task so they can get out beforehand if they need to.
