Official launch of new facilities in Phillip Street Reserve in Pottsville

The official launch of newly-installed fitness equipment in Pottsville will take place on Wednesday 12 February at 8.45am.

Member for Tweed Geoff Provest will officially open the Phillip Street Reserve exercise equipment upgrade, which is part of a larger funding commitment to provide exercise equipment across the Tweed.

The exercise equipment is part of the NSW Government initiative to get more people active and outdoors.

Outdoor fitness equipment has now been installed in Pottsville and Murwillumbah, and by April 2020 another three sites in Tweed Heads and Banora Point will have fitness equipment installed for the community’s enjoyment.

The project - funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet NSW - was a successful Stronger Country Communities Fund project (Round 2), receiving $332,000.

Up to 15 lucky residents are being invited to one of four come and try sessions to celebrate the launch. They will be supervised by a personal trainer on how to get the most out of exercising while using the equipment.

The free training sessions are being run at the Phillip Street Reserve on Wednesday 12 and 19 February from 9.30am to 10.30am; and on Saturday 15 and 22 February from 8am to 9am. The sessions are provided in partnership with Council and the Northern NSW Local Health District.

Northern NSW Local Health District Promotion Manager Jillian Adams said being outdoors and active was great for both physical and mental health.

“We are delighted that Tweed Shire Council has installed the equipment for the enjoyment of all residents,” Ms Adams said.
