Five old water mains break in Tweed Heads

31 January 2020

250 homes without water today

Council is working to repair five water main breaks in Tweed Heads that have left 250 homes without water for most of the day.

All the small mains are the older cement type but it is not known what has caused the spike in breakages.

The areas affected include Ducat Street and Compass Way; The Mainbrace; Angela and Thomson streets; Pontresina Avenue; and, The Quarterdeck, between Norman Street and Leeward Terrace.

“All the mains are small but it is inevitable that we will lose some water today despite the current Level 2 water restrictions,” Manager Water and Wastewater Anthony Burnham said.

Council expects to have repairs completed by 4pm and apologises for any inconvenience to its customers.
