This year, Council will get a clearer and more accurate picture of civil infrastructure builds as it adopts a national system to improve Asset Design As Constructed (ADAC) data.
Council’s Manager Engineering Design Paul Morgan said from this year, ‘work-as-executed’ data from external construction companies must comply with the new ADAC standards.
“This will improve the accuracy of our source of truth data for civil infrastructure assets, particularly on new developments and sub-divisions,” Mr Morgan said.
Council has written to all the external engineers and surveyors on its panel of preferred supplies, notifying them of the improved systems for creating and lodging work-as-executed data with Council.
“All work-as-executed information must be accompanied by a compliant ADAC XML file that captures the asset details in a defined digital format.
“These improved standards will greatly assist Council in managing and maintaining civil infrastructure built by external contractors and handed over to Council’s ownership on or after completion because it will mean we have confidence that our drawings accurately reflect what has been built on the ground.”
Council and ratepayers will benefit from this improved source of truth for built assets as it will take less time to plan for and design asset maintenance and renewal tasks and minimise the need for re-work or costly variations due to inaccurate or incomplete data.
For contractors, the new system will make it easier for them to work with all councils as it is applies a national standard across multiple local government authorities.
