Seniors Festival almost here with 37 activities across the Tweed

Full Seniors Festival program announced

The NSW Seniors Festival is fast approaching and the Tweed will once again be hosting a full program of events for seniors to get involved in.

The festival runs from Wednesday 12 February to Sunday 23 February and the program includes 37 activities, events or offers available to seniors across the 12-day festival.

It includes events such as morning teas, concerts, social get-togethers or special film screenings, leisure, health activities, demonstrations, tours, exhibitions, classes and activities.

Council’s Coordinator - Community Services, Joanne Watters said this year’s festival theme is ‘Love to Celebrate’ and seniors have a lot to celebrate living in the Tweed.

“We hope the seniors in the community will enjoy the great offerings this year and take the opportunity to try something new, make new friends or just have an excuse to do something fun with long-time friends,” Ms Watters said.

“As more than 32 per cent of people who call the Tweed home are aged over 60, these types of festivals are really important to celebrate and activate seniors in the community. It provides opportunities for people to come together and reduce the social isolation that can occur in an aging population,” she said.

Opening Ceremony:

The Seniors Festival Opening Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 12 February at 10am at the Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre Auditorium.

It will include entertainment, light refreshments and an opportunity to enjoy a fun morning celebrating with your community. Find out more and register your attendance for the opening ceremony at www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/SeniorsFestival

The opening ceremony will include the NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards. These awards provide an opportunity for local MPs and the community to recognise seniors that help make their community a diverse, active and inspiring place to live. This year Council received 12 award nominations and the presentation to successful nominees will be made at the Seniors Festival opening ceremony.

The Seniors Festival program of events is available to be picked up at various locations across the Tweed and can also be downloaded from Council’s website at www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/SeniorsFestival.
