Key intersection to stay closed over holiday shutdown

18 December 2019

Detour working well so will continue to end of upgrade

Wollumbin Street, from Nullum Street to Byangum Road, Murwillumbah, will remain closed to all traffic during the festive season despite works being closed down at that time.

Council has decided to keep the road closed to avoid traffic confusion as the detour is working well.

Shoppers can access the Top of the Town shopping centre via Nullum Street.

Workers have completed construction of the sewer and stormwater mains along Wollumbin Street and demolished and rebuilt the retaining wall on the upside embankment at the intersection with Riverview Street.

From Monday 6 January, work will resume to apply feature stone cladding to the face of the new retaining wall, complete reconstruction of the road intersection with Nullum Street and complete fencing and landscaping.

The $1.5 million upgrade is on track to be completed by the start of the new school year on 28 January 2020.

Council would like to thank residents and motorists for their continuing patience during this upgrade.
