Partnership to develop an inclusive playspace for Tweed

Tweed Shire Council and Variety – the Children’s Charity have announced their partnership to develop a concept plan for a state-of-the-art inclusive playspace at Goorimahbah - Place of Stories at Jack Evans Boat Harbour Parklands in Tweed Heads.

Tweed Shire Council is one of four Councils (along with Liverpool City Council, Shoalhaven City Council and Newcastle City Council) to have received the Variety Livvi’s Place 2019 Design Grant to support the development of these inclusive playspaces.

Through clever design and engineering, the new facility will give people of all abilities a fun and challenging place to play side by side.

Manager Parks & Active Communities Stewart Brawley said Council was proud to work alongside Variety to make an inclusive playspace a reality.

“We want to make sure no child misses out on what they need to join in to be just like everyone else,” he said.

Local residents, people with disabilities, the Aboriginal community and visitors will be given the chance to be involved in shaping the design of the playspace, with public consultation to continue once a designer has been engaged.

Variety will also support the development of a fundraising initiative for the project, working with local businesses, the NSW Government and individuals to financially support the inclusive playspace in reaching its full potential.

Pending successful fundraising initiatives, work at the site is expected to begin in the 2020-21 financial year.
