Be inspired by Margaret Olley

20 November 2019

New exhibition showcases works from the Gallery’s collection

Opening on Friday 22 November, Margaret Olley: Inspired is drawn entirely from the Tweed Regional Gallery’s collection.

The new exhibition includes interior and still life paintings by Olley, portraits of the artist and responses to her home studio by contemporary artists.

Inspired will give visitors the opportunity to see paintings by Olley, alongside the recreation of her home studio which is on permanent display at the Gallery.

The recreation of her studio features original architectural elements such as windows and doors, relocated from Olley’s home at 48 Duxford Street, Paddington, Sydney. The interiors are filled with more than 20,000 items Olley collected over nearly 50 years as subject matter for her paintings.

“This combination of work explores the evocative power of Olley the artist, Olley the mentor and the studio itself,” Gallery Director Susi Muddiman OAM said.

“It’s very exciting to be showcasing works from our collection including Danelle Bergstrom’s portrait of Olley, which was an Archibald Prize Finalist in 2003; Cressida Campbell’s incredible interior of Olley’s home studio and Olley’s Wildflowers and pears c.1973, which will be on display here for the very first time,” she said.

The Gallery will present activities and events associated with this exhibition. For details visit their website https://artgallery.tweed.nsw.gov.au/.

Margaret Olley: Inspired will continue at the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre until 19 July 2020.
