Proactive businesses celebrate NSW Small Business Month

Being sustainable in business is not all about being 'green' - that was the message at the Succeed in the Tweed Business Workshop held at Tweed Heads last night.

About 30 representatives from proactive businesses in the Tweed celebrated NSW Small Business Month at the event hosted by Council’s Economic Development team.

Guests heard from keynote speaker Stewart Moore, from EarthCheck, who delivered a presentation about the ‘triple bottom line’ framework – a business model that focusses on social, environmental and financial principles.

A panel of local business owners who have successfully used these principles to grow their businesses sustainably with minimal negative impact on their core operations answered questions from the floor. The panel consisted of representatives from:

• Food Smith Café and Pantry

• SAE Group

• Summerland Credit Union, and

• Waste Warriors.

Council Senior Economic Development Officer Kym Kranen said the event was a great opportunity for local businesses to learn how to grow their business and connect with like-minded individuals.

Ms Kranen said the Tweed was home to many successful small businesses and Council’s Economic Development team offered a professional support and development program to help them thrive.

"Inspiring existing businesses to grow and attracting new businesses to the Tweed is critical to boosting the local economy and enhancing job opportunities,” Ms Kranen said.

“The opportunities for growth and diversification across the Tweed are significant and our commitment to sustainable business is what sets us apart from other regions.

“It’s about making sure we leave the Tweed in better shape than how we found it so that our Tweed community is even better tomorrow than it is today.”
