Adopt a pet with Friends of the Pound

Tweed Shire Council strengthens its partnership with Friends of the Pound
Plans are underway to construct a new, permanent, best practice Pound and Rehoming Centre in the Tweed in 2022. Until this is ready, Council has put a number of temporary arrangements in place to ensure as many animals as possible are rehomed.
Council has streamlined the animal adoption process by working even closer with not-for-profit organisation Friends of the Pound.
Anyone looking to adopt a pet can view the animals for sale on the Friends of the Pound website friendsofthepound.com/adopt and Facebook page www.facebook.com/FriendsofthePound
Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell, said Council is taking all steps and efforts to ensure Council can find homes for as many pets as possible throughout both the temporary arrangements and development of a modern Pound and Rehoming Centre.
“If your family is looking for a new dog or cat we encourage you to consider adopting. When you adopt a pet, you save a loving animal by making them part of your family and open up shelter space for another animal who might need it,” Mr Connell said.
“Friends of the Pound can arrange for you to meet and get to know your pet before you commit to purchase it.
“By adopting you will take home a new member of your family that will love you unconditionally - they always seem to know that you have been their saviour,” he said.
Council, in partnership with Friends of the Pound, aims to rehome as many animals as possible and will continue to work with other animal rescue organisations.
