Grants available to assist heritage conservation in the Tweed
18 July 2019
Maintenance work or repairs in conservation areas matched dollar-for-dollar
The Tweed Shire Local Heritage Assistance Fund is about to open for applications again, providing grants to assist with and encourage positive heritage conservation work in the Tweed.
Owners of heritage items or properties within heritage conservation areas are encouraged to think about what maintenance works or repairs they need to do and consider applying for monetary assistance from Council through the grant program.
There are 116 heritage items and six heritage conservation areas identified in the Tweed Local Environmental Plan 2014. The heritage conservation areas are Condong, Hartigans Hill in Murwillumbah, Murwillumbah Main Street, Tumbulgum, Tyalgum and Uki.
Grants of between $1000 and $4000 are available. Successful applicants must match the funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Applications will be considered for any project that demonstrates a good heritage conservation outcome, however priority will be given to small restoration or maintenance projects that involve:
On commercial properties
• relocation of air conditioning units from front facades and /or windows visible from the street
• reinstatement or repair of original frontage materials such as windows, tiles, highlight windows or traditional entryways
• works to alleviate water damage such as guttering, roof or drainage repairs
On residential properties
• external painting
• reinstatement or repair of original features or materials such as bannisters, windows, doors or stairs
• works to alleviate water damage such as guttering, roof or drainage repairs.
Applications open on Tuesday 23 July 2019 and close on Friday 23 August 2019 at 4pm.
Funding will not be granted for work that has already taken place or for works that need development consent.
Grant guidelines, application forms and further information are available from Council's website www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/heritage, at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre or by calling Council’s Strategic Planning Unit on (02) 6670 2503.
