Another chance to have your say on Draft Tweed Rural Land Strategy

20 February 2019

Re-exhibition due to number and complexity of amendments

The Draft Tweed Rural Land Strategy is being re-exhibited for public comment following a number of changes made by Tweed Shire Councillors.

Community Conversations will be held on Wednesday 6 March to allow members of the public to talk through the amendments with Council planners.

Council’s Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell, said the aim of the strategy was to paint a picture of what rural land in Tweed Shire may look like in 20 years, how it might develop and how it will be managed to preserve the quality of the rural Tweed lifestyle.

The draft Strategy was originally exhibited from 7 November 2017 to 28 February 2018. Following a

review of submissions, a draft amended Strategy was presented to Council for adoption in May 2018, however was deferred for further consideration by Councillors.

Council’s Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell said since that time, several Councillors had requested that certain actions listed in the Strategy be either amended or deleted.

“These changes have made the document substantially different to the exhibited version and it was resolved in December 2018 to re-exhibit,” Mr Connell said.

“This re-exhibition seeks feedback on changes to the Implementation Plan proposed by Councillors or the strategy more generally.

“The Councillors recognise that the draft Strategy presents a number of complex topics where people have a diverse range of views, and they are keen to gain further feedback from the community on the latest changes.

“We encourage people to come along to a Community Conversation and talk face-to-face about their issues and suggestions,” he said.

The two Community Conversations on Wednesday 6 March will be at the Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre Auditorium in Tumbulgum Road from 1pm to 2.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm.
