Tweed residents are recycling right

Community Recycling Centre promoted for National Recycling Week
As part of National Recycling Week, 12–18 November, Tweed Shire Council is celebrating some of the area’s recycling achievements over the past 12 months.
On average every month, Tweed residents are recycling a total of 958 tonnes of recyclables and 1,075 tonnes of food and garden organic waste from their household bins.
Council is now encouraging residents to consider recycling options available to them for items which aren’t covered by kerbside collections. Many can be taken to the Tweed Community Recycling Centre at Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre for free.
Coordinator Waste Management Rod Dawson said, “If you’re moving house, renovating your home or just having a spring clean you’ll probably have household problem waste such as unwanted paint, oils, batteries, e-waste, fluorescent bulbs and gas bottles to dispose of.
“Any resident can take household quantities of up to 20 litres or 20 kilograms of these wastes to our community recycling centre at any time of the year for free.”
Over the past 12 months, residents have successfully recycled the following at the community recycling centre:
- 1,889kg of fluorescent tube lighting
- 2,438kg of household batteries
- 24,045kg of gas cylinders
- 2,358 litres of fuels
- 62,485 litres of paint
- 1,597 litres of pesticides
- 2,249 litres of acids, aerosols and other chemicals
- 1,597 litres of pesticides
