Nightworks in Murwillumbah’s main street are NBN, not Council

07 November 2018

The night and day works on the National Broadband Network (NBN) which have been underway in Murwillumbah’s main street for the past few weeks are not associated with Council.

Council’s Director Engineering, David Oxenham, said NBN Co. and their contractors operate under the Telecommunications Act (1997), not through a Council approval process.

“They are only required to notify Council of proposed works through a Land Access Notice,” Mr Oxenham said.

“In that notice, there is no information or approvals relating to hours of work – that’s a matter for NBN.

“It is the responsibility of NBN Co. via its contractors to notify the community.”
