Just three of 28 landslips on Urliup Road still to be repaired

Unplanned restoration of Urliup Road, Urliup, to the tune of $1.45 million is due to be completed next month.

In the March 2017 flood, 28 landslips occurred on Urliup Road, as well as 36 other damage items.

Council contractors have repaired 59 of the damages at a cost of $830,000. They are now completing work on five major landslips at a cost of $620,000. Two of these slip repairs are nearing completion; two are in progress and the final slip is due to be repaired starting in October, weather permitting.

Council contractor Crosana has closed the road to work on landslips between numbers 913-999 and numbers 1039-1110 Urliup Road but will clear the worksites and make safe to let local traffic through when required. Motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes to pass through each worksite.

Repair of these two slips is expected to be completed by mid-October.

Then, the final landslip repair is due to start on 13 October by Contractor Geo Stabilise. Again the road will be closed, with motorists being asked to wait up to 10 minutes for the worksite to be made safe if they need to pass through.

“Urliup Road is a narrow and winding road which ideally would be closed to repair these landslips,” Coordinator Flood Restoration Nigel Dobson said.

“However the contractors and Council have agreed to close the road for works and reopen to let local traffic through when required due to the lengthy detour residents would need to take to avoid the works.”

School bus travel and rubbish bin collections will not be affected by the repair of these last three slips. Crosana and Geo Stabilise will ensure these vehicles can pass safely through the worksites but, again, they may have to wait up to 10 minutes to do so.
