Mayor of Tweed launches innovation grants fund at Sustainable Home Living Expo

An exciting new $60,000 annual grant program was officially launched today at Tweed Shire Council’s Sustainable Living Home Expo at Kingscliff TAFE.

The Tweed Shire Innovative Solutions Grants Program was launched at the expo by Mayor of Tweed, Cr Katie Milne, as a new initiative to ramp up action on climate change and our biodiversity crisis.

“The purpose of this grant program is to encourage and support individuals, businesses, schools, organisations and community groups develop innovative solutions to a range of sustainability challenges facing Tweed Shire,” Cr Milne said.

“We are in an unprecedented period of change with the challenges of climate change, population growth and biodiversity loss. The world must reach peak emissions by 2020 and then rapidly decline to zero emissions.

“This grant gives us the opportunity to draw out the vast wealth of great ideas and goodwill that is within the Tweed community.

“So please get those creative and innovative ideas in to become part of the solution. All ideas are most welcome, large or small for full or part subsidy,” Cr Milne said.

Funding is available under the following categories:

· Water demand management – maximum $15,000

· Waste management – maximum $15,000

· Sustainable agriculture – maximum $10,000

· Wastewater management – maximum $10,000

· River health and riparian management – maximum $5,000

· Biodiversity and habitat management – maximum $5,000

The Grant Program is now open with criteria and entry forms available at www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/grantsandfunding

Applications can be made at any time will be assessed four times a year.
