Art workshops for kids and creative play for families

Parents and carers are invited to encourage some creativity in their children these school holidays.

New programs at the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre aim to inspire and engage young people and families through quality experiences with art, artists and art-making.

Taking inspiration from current exhibitions, the Gallery’s ART PLAY and ART MAKER programs offer fun and creative, hands-on art experiences for families and arty kids this July school holiday.

Families are invited to enhance their exhibition experience with ART PLAY art-making experiences led by a trained educator. On Wednesday 11 July and Friday 20 July, drop in to the gallery between 11.00am and 1.00pm to view the exhibition A painter’s house and make a Margaret Olley-inspired interior diorama.

No bookings are required for this free activity. Please ensure children are supervised by an adult.

Budding artists aged 6 to 12 years have the opportunity to work with exhibiting artist Georgie Maddox in the ART MAKER workshops. Georgie’s work explores the effects of consumer culture on sustainability, as well as the broader environmental impacts on our natural landscape.

On Thursday 12 July, Georgie is offering two classes inspired by landscapes, working with oil pastels and collage:

  • Children 6 to 8 years old can book into Looking at Landscapes from 10.00am to 12.00noon for $25, and
  • Children 9 to 12 years are invited to join the 1.00pm to 3.30pm class, Collaging the Landscape, which costs $30.
Those booking for two or more children in the one transaction will get a $5 discount on the second and subsequent children (they do not have to be siblings). To book, go to www.trybooking.com/UWLP.

LEGO loving kids, aged 7 and older, should check out the Junior Robotics 101 LEGO Workshop on offer from regular presenter Bricks 4 Kidz. Check out www.bricks4kidz.com.au/queensland-currumbin
