Council workers will return to Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum tomorrow and Saturday to prepare the section of road for the installation of the wire rope median from Monday.
Motorists should expect short delays from 7am-4pm, with possible one-laning of the traffic flow as the preparatory works are completed.
Then, on Monday 28 May, contractors will begin to install the wire rope median which will provide physical separation of the north and southbound lanes.
Then, both workers and machinery will occupy 4.5 metres in the centre of the newly laid section of road, with two lanes of traffic travelling past them using the road shoulders.
Short delays should be expected when machinery has to enter and exit the worksite.
Stop / slow flagmen will be controlling the traffic flow through the worksite from Monday to Saturday, from 7am – 4pm daily.
The first task for contractor Guardrail Installations will be to set large concrete anchor slabs under the road surface at both ends of the median. They will then set the uprights in the road, string the wire rope and strain it off to the anchor slabs. The final task will be line-marking, which will be undertaken by Council at the end of the job.
The installation of the 920 metres of wire rope as a Federal Government Blackspot Program is expected to take three weeks, weather permitting.
