Border memorial closed for repairs

26 April 2018

No pedestrian access to Point Danger viewing platform

Pedestrian access to the viewing platform at the Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse at Point Danger will be closed from Monday 30 April 2018 to allow the memorial structure to be repaired.

In a project jointly funded by the City of Gold Coast and Tweed Shire Council, the suspended concrete slab nestled between the four columns marking the Queensland / New South Wales border will be repaired at a cost of $67,000 over a period of six weeks.

To undertake the repair, contract works will include the removal of the decorative metal façade from the suspended slab. It will then be re-attached at the end of the job.

To ensure public safety, the worksite will be fenced off.

The work will not affect the tower communication operations of Marine Rescue-Point Danger, which is located at the memorial.

All the grassed viewing areas and the public carpark at Point Danger will remain open.
