Last call for local artists at Tweed Regional Gallery

11 April 2018

Entries for Border Art Prize 2018 and Community Access Exhibition Program close soon

The Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre is issuing a last call for regional artists who may wish to take advantage of two significant opportunities to promote their work.

The Border Art Prize will be on again from 25 May to 15 July 2018 and applications are also being accepted from locals who wish to exhibit at the gallery over the next two years under the Community Arts Access Program (CAEP).

Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said this year’s Border Art Prize Exhibition will be held across two venues, Tweed Regional Gallery and M-Arts Precinct in Murwillumbah.

“By extending the Border Art Prize into the M-Arts Precint in downtown Murwillumbah we are enabling approximately an additional 80-100 artists to have their work shown to eager audiences which is something we are very excited about,” Ms Muddiman said.

“Having a third of the show downtown extends our reach and provides a significant boost to regional artists.

“Both spaces will be treated with the same high professional standard that is associated with Tweed Regional Gallery, with works distributed equally across both locations.”

The aim of the CAEP, which has been running since the Gallery relocated to its current site on Mistral Road in 2004, is to provide regional artists with a professional venue for exhibitions of new work.

Miss Muddiman said the gallery remains committed to supporting regional artists, and the CAEP is considered an important part of the Gallery’s operation.

“Many local artists have mounted their first solo exhibition under the CAEP, which offers a valuable exercise in professional development while raising their profile in the regional community and beyond,” she said.

Artists who have previously exhibited under this program include Hobie Porter, Angus Mcdonald, Andrew Hmelnitsky, and Gatya Kelly.

Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to submit proposals according to the application guidelines.

Entries for the Border Art Prize close Friday 20 March 2018. See www.artgallery.tweed.nsw.gov.au/awardsandprizes for details of entry.

Applications for CAEP exhibitions are due by Monday 30 April 2018. See http://artgallery.tweed.nsw.gov.au/InformationForArtists for details of how to apply.
