Council to host special celebration Sunday in Pottsville
The 2018 NSW Seniors Festival is now underway with more than 40 events to be held across Tweed Shire from now until Sunday April 15.
This year Tweed Shire Council will mark the 60th anniversary of the Seniors Festival with a special seniors celebration event at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School in Pottsville on Sunday 8 April starting from 9.30am.
The celebration will focus on the best aspects of seniors living in Tweed Shire and will feature music, activities, information stalls and great food.
Council’s Seniors Festival Coordinator and Community Options Case Manager Fiona Holland said the NSW Seniors Festival is something the Tweed community looks forward to every year.
“As an area where people from around the country and around the world choose to come and spend their retirement we have an inherently important connection with our local seniors community,” Ms Holland said.
“As well as celebrating all the best things about seniors living our goal is to ensure the lines of communication stay open so everyone knows how to access the many services we provide.
“The Seniors Festival is about getting out, making new friends and discovering new things about the community around you and we are all looking forward to the event on Sunday as well as other activities over the two weeks.”
Much of the entertainment at the Pottsville event will be provided by Tweed’s own Basement Band, house band at the Gold Coast Arts Centre for many years, who will set the mood with rock and jazz hits from the 1950s and ‘60s as guests enjoy a complimentary morning tea before the festivities begin.
Official duties will include the presentation of the NSW Seniors Festival Award for Tweed, recognising seniors in the area who have contributed to making the Tweed Shire a healthier, happier and more inclusive place to live, by State Member for Tweed Geoff Provest.
Seniors Festival events are also being held at Tweed Museums and the Tweed Regional Gallery, with programs available at libraries and Council offices or by visiting tweed.nsw.gov.au/SeniorsFestival.
