Short interruption to Tweed Library services

Tweed Library expansion reaches next major milestone

Selected library services at Tweed Heads will be closed to the public for three days next week, as major electrical works are completed for the new library expansion.

Members of the community will be unable to browse the Tweed Heads library collection from next Monday to Wednesday.

However, access to the computer and reading room will continue to be available.

A new electricity switchboard will be installed from Monday, as construction of the expanded library building nears completion.

“The switchboard installation will take three days and will involve the entire building occupied by the new library, the Tweed auditorium, and the temporary library site that has been operating during the expansion project,” Council’s Manager Community and Natural Resources, Robyn Grigg, said.

“We apologise for the interruption but have ensured as many services as possible will continue to be available.

“The replacement of the switchboard is an important milestone as we work towards having the new library open to the public in December.”

Ms Grigg said there would be a further interruption to Tweed Heads library services in November when the collection is moved from the temporary sites back into the new expanded building.

“The move will include all the shelving, computers and other equipment and will require a period when both the temporary sites and the new building will need to be closed,” she said.

“It is also necessary so library staff can finish implementing tagging all the collection items for the new self-serve booking system, which will provide a much quicker and convenient service for library users.

“The dates of this closure and measures to assist library users will be confirmed in coming weeks.”
