Expect long delays on multiple roadwork sites next week

30 June 2017

Be aware works in Murwillumbah, on Kennedy Drive and Tweed Coast Road

Council advises motorists to avoid three areas of the shire where roadworks are likely to cause long delays over the next two weeks.

In South Murwillumbah on Monday (3 July), contractors will begin resurfacing River Street, from Colin Street to the end of River Street. Then, on Tuesday (4 July), they begin work on Stafford Street and, the following day (Wednesday 5 July), on Hartigan Street, from River Street to Eyles Avenue.

The work to profile off each of the old surfaces and apply a bonding layer will take one day. Then, about a week later, the contractors will return to apply the asphalt wearing surface.

While one-lane flow will be maintained throughout the work, motorists should expect long delays.

In Tweed Heads on Tuesday (4 July 2017), Kennedy Drive, between Norman Street to Crystal Waters Drive, will be reduced to one lane flow as Council replaces a watermain on the southern side of the bridge.

Stop / slow flagmen will be in place from 7am to 4pm daily to manage traffic through the area.

Motorists are encouraged to travel around the worksite via Ducat Street, Mugga Way, The Quarterdeck and Norman Street to avoid long and frequent delays.

This work will take about two weeks.

Then, in Cudgen on Friday (7 July) through to the end of Sunday (9 July), motorists are urged to find an alternate route while stabilisation works are carried out on Tweed Coast Road, from 190m north of Cudgen Road intersection to 400m south of Crescent Street.

This work will close down at the end of Sunday, with the contractors returning the following Sunday (16 July) to re-asphalt the road.
