Artists share Olley insights at Gallery Up Late panel discussion

Some of Australia’s leading artists will share their stories of working with Margaret Olley, when they participate in a Gallery Up Late discussion panel at Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre on Friday 9 June.
Danelle Bergstrom, Nicholas Harding and Adam Knott all have artwork in the new exhibition Portraits: Margaret Olley exhibition and will offer rare insight to the personality and passions of the celebrated artist.
They will be joined by Art Gallery of South Australia Director Nick Mitzevich, who was a close friend of Margaret Olley and will host the panel discussion Reflections of Olley.
“Margaret Olley is the most painted face in Australian art history and many of those artists were either close friends or became close to her,” Margarget Olley Art Centre Curator and Collections Manager, Ingrid Hedgcock, said.
“She had a strong personality and a passionate dedication to the arts, and became a mentor to many young artists.
“Many of the people who worked with Margaret have very colourful stories and fond memories of their time with her and the moments they spent in her famous Paddington home studio.
“Some of those stories are sure to emerge during this intimate discussion between four prominent figures in the contemporary Australian art scene.”
Reflections of Olley will be the focal point for the Gallery Up Late, which will be held at the Gallery in Murwillumbah on Friday 9 June from 5pm to 9pm.
“Visitors will have a rare opportunity to tour the gallery from 5pm, before the panel discussion begins at 6.30pm,” Ms Hedgcock said.

As part of the event, the Gallery Café will be open and offering a tapas menu from 5pm to 6.30pm and dinner from 7.30pm to 9pm. Dinner bookings are essential by calling (02) 6672 5088, Wednesday to Sunday.
