Call for Tweed Heads Museum volunteers amid national celebrations
Tweed Regional Museum has a happy history of wonderful volunteers and is using National Volunteer Week to shine more light on their valued contributions.
“Without our front-of-house and Historical Society volunteers we wouldn’t be able to open our doors or offer the service that our visitors value so highly, Museum Director Judy Kean said.
“Visitors regularly rate our volunteers as ‘terrific’ and complement them on their knowledge and helpfulness.
“They are a fantastic bunch and really do embody Volunteering Australia’s theme for National Volunteer week - ‘Give Happy Live Happy’.”
National Volunteer week (8 - 14 May) is an annual opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contribution that volunteers make to many aspects of our lives.
Promoted by Volunteering Australia, the week features a nation-wide program of events acknowledging the more than six million Australians who volunteer.
As part of local celebrations, Tweed Regional Museum is inviting more people to get involved as front-of-house volunteers at the Museum at Tweed Heads.
The Tweed Heads branch is currently closed while a number of significant improvements are made, including construction of a new office/research centre, refurbishment of heritage buildings, and development of new interpretation and displays.
“We’re calling for volunteers who would like to be part of these exciting changes and be part of the team that welcomes visitors to the Museum, which will reopen later in the year,” Ms Kean said.
“Volunteers already contribute approximately 160 hours a week to support the Museum and we love them for it! Redevelopment of the Tweed Heads branch means we’ll rely on our volunteers even more.”
