Council crews on road to assess damage to roads, water and sewer

Motorists urged to travel only if necessary
Council has mobilised crews to assess damage to its assets from the floods and prioritise repairs. This work will take many days so residents are urged to be patient.
Assets will be repaired in priority of their criticality.
All motorists are urged not to travel unnecessarily and to take extreme care on all roads.
While we have reports on the condition of many roads; other remain inaccessible to crews and there may be more damage than is listed below.
Road status:
The following is the status of our road network as known at 9am Sunday 2 April 2017:
- Byrrill Creek Road – closed at both ends (near Kyogle at the bridge and near Tyalgum). Byrrill Creek Bridge - washed away. Road approaches washed away.
- Cedar Creek Bridge - reported washed away but no access to verify.
- Clothiers Creek Road, between M1 and Tweed Valley Way – Closed - significant top and bottom slips.
- Coorool Road, Coorool. Landslip near school. Passable but dangerous and multiple hazards.
- Cudgera Creek Road – closed by landslips at both ends.
- Dunbible Bridge – open and clear.
- Eviron Road, Condong, near cemetery - dirt over road but passable.
- Garden of Eden Road, Tomewin - landslip.
- Glengarrie Road, Glengarrie – Council working to clear landslip now.
- Kirbys Road, Limpinwood. Landslip.
- Kyogle Road – trafficable to the shire boundary but only just. Contractors working to clear today.
- Limpinwood Road, between Tyalgum and Chillingham - Closed. Council trying to reopen now to give access to isolated community.
- Mt Warning Road, Mt Warning – Closed. Reported major damage.
- Nobbys Creek Road, Boatharbour Bridge, North Arm – passable but major damage. Crew working on it now.
- North Arm Road, North Arm - one lane open. Landslip.
- Palmvale Road, Palmvale - Closed. Temporary road around roadworks washed away. New culverts good. Expect temporary fix 2-3 days.
- Riverside Drive, Tumbulgum – one lane.
- South Murwillumbah Levee - multiple breaks.
- South Pumpinbil Road, Pumpinbil - Closed. Bridge abutment undermined.
- Spring Valley Road, Cudgera – Contractors working to clear today.
- Terranora Road, Tumbulgum – Closed. Under water.
- Tomewin Road, Kynnumboon - Passable but dangerous. Multiple landslips and overhanging trees.
- Tweed Valley Way Tumbulgum – Closed. Under water.
- Tweed Valley Way at Greenhills, South Murwillumbah – One lane open on temporary repair. Take extra care.
- Piggabeen to Cobaki – Trafficable but multiple landslips.
- Upper Crystal Creek Road, Upper Crystal Creek – Landslip.
- Urliup Road, Bilambil to Dulguigan - Closed in multiple locations. Road washed away. 100m section missing. Open from Bilambil to major causeway before the bridge. Murwillumbah end closed and expect to be closed for several months.
Water infrastructure All water supplies are good except for Uki where residents are asked to conserve water as much as possible.
Boiled water alerts remain for:
• South Murwillumbah south of Blacks Drain (Greenhills Lodge)
• Uki Village
Council needs to test water samples to ensure no contaminants before the Health Department will lift Boiled Water Alerts. Testing will occur today.
Sewer infrastructure
The sewer systems listed below are not operating so residents are asked to minimise usage if possible.
• South Murwillumbah River Street Sewer Pump Station not operating. Crews are attempting to install temporary bypass.
• Burringbar / Mooball – treatment plant operating. Crews trying to restore sewer pump stations.
• Uki Waste Water Treatment Plant
• Bray Park, Tree Street
• Tumbulgum Village – Water needs to recede before Council can assess or attempt repairs.
Crews yesterday repaired the sewer to South Murwillumbah, south of Blacks Drain, by installing temporary mains lost in a major washout of Tweed Valley Way.
