Governor says every Australian should experience MOAC

A visit to the Margaret Olley Art Centre is an experience every Australian should have at some time in their life, according to the Queensland Governor, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.

Mr de Jersey and his wife Kaye received a guided tour of the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre (MOAC) on Friday, a visit they had been planning for a number of years.

"I have been a follower of her work for many years and we have two wonderful Olley paintings hanging in Government House," he said.

Mr de Jersey had official duties in Coolangatta last Friday and took the opportunity to duck over the border and visit the Gallery.

"We have been wanting to come since the Margaret Olley Art Centre opened," he said.

Mr and Mrs de Jersey are friends of Margaret Olley Art Trust member Philip Bacon AM, who was instrumental in overseeing the $1 million bequest by Margaret Olley AC to establish MOAC at Tweed Regional Gallery.

"It's just marvellous," Mr de Jersey said after their tour of MOAC.

"It captures a moment in time and it's something all Australians should experience.

"And I can't get over the beauty of the Gallery's setting."
