New Tweed cycleway map caps off Bike Week 2016
16 September 2016
Week ends with breakfast and bike maintenance tutorials
Tweed Shire Council will launch its updated Cycleway Map at this year’s NSW Bike Week celebration in Kingscliff on Sunday 25 September.
Anyone and everyone with a bike is invited to Jack Bayliss Park at 8am for breakfast, free tutorials on bike maintenance and a copy of the revised cycleway map, which details more than 100 kilometres of shared-user paths across the shire.
For the donation of a gold coin, riders who show their helmet can pick up a bacon and egg burger cooked by Kingscliff Lions Club, a barista coffee and some top tips from the Kingscliff Cycle Centre with 15-minute tutorials on looking after your bike (8.30-8.45am); changing a flat tyre (8.45-9am); and, adjusting your brakes (9-9.15am). They can also test ride some fun fat-tyred and beach cruiser bikes.
To take away, there’ll be free Bike Week bags packed with goodies to help you enjoy your ride and a copy of Council’s revised cycleway map to guide your journey.
NSW Bike Week is an initiative of Transport for NSW and aims to get all members of the community riding their bikes for both transport and recreation.
“We want to see everyone, especially those people whose bikes are forgotten in the back of the shed, out on Sunday on their bikes and rediscovering the joys of riding,” Council’s Road Safety Officer, Alana Brooks, said.
“Cycling is a great option for those short trips, and often you’ll pedal there quicker than it takes you to get the car out, drive there, find a parking spot and then walk to where you’re going. With a bike, you can often pull up right at the front door.
“Cycling is good for your health, good for your wallet and good for the planet.”
