Council is calling on Tweed retail businesses to enter a new Tweed Festive Shopfront competition designed to support local businesses and create a festive atmosphere across the Tweed.
The Tweed Festive Shopfront campaign is part of Council's Succeed in Tweed business support program and is a collaboration with Tweed Shire Council, the three business chambers of Tweed Heads, Kingscliff and Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley Weekly. Businesses are encouraged to decorate their shops or shopfronts with a Christmas/ festive theme and register via the Tweed Festive Shopfronts online form. Entries will be showcased on an interactive map showing the locations of great festive displays from businesses across the Tweed, with the aim of encouraging residents to get out and explore the regions shopping precincts and to shop local this Christmas. Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry, said the campaign was launched to celebrate local businesses and encourage the community to throw its support behind our stores and shopping precincts this festive season. “This new and wonderful initiative is a great way for businesses to connect with their community. It also adds a little extra festive spirit to people’s shopping experience in business precincts and inspires them to choose local this festive season," Cr Cherry said. “The Tweed Festive Shopfronts initiative is another way Council is supporting business and collaborating with local business chambers to support local businesses to shine. Choosing to shop local at Christmas benefits our local community, supports local jobs, and helps our small business economy thrive.” Supporting the initiative are local business chambers, Tweed Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Business Kingscliff and Business Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley Weekly newspaper, who will be visiting local stores to encourage businesses to participate in the initiative. Three participating businesses with the most impressive displays will have the chance to win one of three prize packs, consisting of a $500 Gift Pay e-voucher, complimentary one-year membership to their local business chamber and a quarter page advertising package in the Tweed Valley Weekly. Winning displays will be selected by representatives from Tweed Shire Council, the local business chambers and the Tweed Valley Weekly. One winner will be selected for each of the three precinct areas. Businesses interested in participating in the campaign to share the festive spirit can register their entry online. Registrations must upload a photograph with a business name and address and be a shopfront or have a physical business premise that has a festive display open to the public. For full terms and conditions and to find out more visit our Christmas webpage. Registrations open today, Friday 29 November and close midnight on Sunday 15 December.
