Council is calling on residents to get involved in the upcoming Tweed Seniors Festival which will take place from Monday 3 to Sunday 16 March 2025.
Organisations are encouraged to register their events by Friday 13 December 2024 to be featured in the festival program and join in celebrating the contributions of older residents in the Shire.
Residents are also being asked to nominate a local senior doing great things for their community who could win a Local Achievement Award. The awards will be presented at the festival’s opening ceremony on Monday 3 March.
Council’s Director Sustainable Communities and Environment Naomi Searle said the festival was an important fortnight of events on the Tweed calendar with community input playing a huge part in its ongoing success.
“In line with this year’s festival theme, Time to Shine’, we really want to spotlight some of the incredible opportunities we have for Tweed seniors to connect with and enjoy,” Ms Searle said.
“Make sure you get your events in and nominate a local senior doing great things in their community so we can celebrate them.”
The festival is part of the NSW Seniors Festival – the largest celebration of seniors in the Southern Hemisphere. This year’s festival theme is Time to Shine! which highlights the important role older people play in our communities. The festival aims to encourage older people to discover new experiences and foster friendships through a series of events and activities.
Get your organisation involved: Council invites local groups, businesses and organisations to create engaging events tailored to seniors in the community. From offering special discounts to organising activities, past successful events included concerts, workshops, luncheons, leisure activities, tours, and exhibitions. Registered events will be promoted for free in the official 2025 Tweed Shire Seniors Festival program and featured in the Tweed Link, Council’s weekly newsletter.
Recognising local achievers: The Tweed Local Achievement Awards will be held during the festival, providing an opportunity for our local Members of Parliament and communities to celebrate seniors who have significantly contributed to the community’s diversity, activity and inclusiveness. Past honourees include Veronese Burgess, recognised for her work with local elders, and Judy and Mark Eglington, who were honoured for their nearly 65 years of volunteer service with the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Register your event: Submit your event by Friday 13 December 2024 to be included in the 2025 festival program.

Nominate a Local Achiever: Nominate an inspiring senior who has made a difference in your community. Nominations close Friday 13 December 2024.
