Tweed Shire Council’s Annual Report 2022 - 2023 has been recognised in the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) with a Silver Award in the General Award category.
Council’s Director Corporate Services Warren van Wyk said it was wonderful for Council to receive this recognition and the award, which is benchmarked against ARA criteria, based on world’s best practice and performance.
“Last year was the first time Tweed Shire Council entered the awards and the Bronze Award we received was a great first achievement,” Mr van Wyk said.
“This Silver Award highlights Council’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in its governance, accountability, financial and performance reporting.”
The Australasian Reporting Awards promote best practice in reporting standards. They are administered by an independent not-for-profit organisation which aims to raise awareness among organisations of the need for the complete, transparent and timely disclosure of information.
The Awards are open to all private sector, public sector and not-for-profit sector organisations in Australia, New Zealand and countries in the Asia Pacific Region and beyond that produce an annual report.
The General Awards are a measure of the standard achieved and entering the Awards allows Council to benchmark its Annual Report against world best-practice reporting criteria, and against local government peers across the region.
The Silver Award presented by the ARA, is awarded to organisations who meet the criteria of satisfactory disclosure of key aspects of its business; and outstanding disclosure in at least one significant area.
The Annual Report is a comprehensive document that provides a clear and transparent picture of Council's financial performance, governance and overall health over the past year.
Highlights from this financial year included:

Thriving: the official opening of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail boosting tourism to our hinterland regions.
