Green and hard waste collection underway.
Clearance of a minor landslip on the upslope on the Murwillumbah side of the extreme landslip on Tyalgum Road will be take place next week forcing the temporary closure of the road during the day.
Heavy rain events at the beginning of this year have resulted in additional road work having to be conducted at the extreme slip site on Tyalgum Road next week.
As a result of the rains, material on the upslope of Tyalgum Road on the Murwillumbah side of the current work site has slipped, impacting on drainage and the road.
Council has engaged contractor SEE Civil to carry out repair work to this area which will commence on Tuesday 19 March 2024. The work is expected to be completed by Friday 22 March 2024, weather permitting.
The contractor will need to occupy the temporary road with excavation equipment and trucks during this time. This will result in the road being temporarily closed for lengthy periods during the day.
However, Council is working with the local school bus service and schools to allow passage through the site to coincide with morning and afternoon services.
Work hours for these activities will be from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Residents are advised to make alternative travel arrangements during work hours over this period.
Outside of these hours, the temporary road will be open and operating under controlled traffic light conditions as per normal.
The work is being carried out at this time to avoid impacting on Easter traffic.
Work on the major slip site will continue while the clearance work is carried out.
