Tweed Shire Council is inviting applications from businesses interested in securing a commercial lease within the state heritage-listed Murwillumbah Railway Station precinct.

Program Leader Destination and Industry Development Nicole Manderson said this was a significant step towards revitalising the station as a vibrant hub for visitors and locals alike.

"This is a unique opportunity for businesses to establish themselves at the heart of the Rail Trail – the historic Murwillumbah Railway Station – which is also the gateway to the Murwillumbah CBD,” Ms Manderson said.

“The station, serving as a trailhead for the Tweed's 24-kilometre section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, has seen an impressive influx of visitors since the trail's opening in March.

“With more than 70,000 people using the Rail Trail in the first four months of operation and projections indicating it will attract more than 150,000 users and guests annually, this location couldn’t be more promising for prospecting retail operators.”

Four unique retail spaces are available for tender, with three shopfront spaces on the railway station platform and one ground-level site.

Council is particularly interested in businesses that align with the Rail Trail's values and can offer services that enhance the Rail Trail experience across the key product categories of Taste, Move, Explore and Enjoy.

Applications close on Wednesday 11 October 2023 at 12 pm NSW time.
