Get ready for the concert of the year! Young musos of the Tweed are getting ready to rock at the Youth Music Venture grand finale showcase concert at Seagulls Club, Tweed Heads West on Sunday 18 June.

Youth Music Venture (YMV), a volunteer organisation, provides programs that cater for young people wanting to experience what it’s like to be part of a band.

This is the second year YMV has operated in the Tweed. The free program, which began on the Gold Coast in 2009, is open to young people in our community aged 11 to 17 years.

Three bands from the venture will perform at the YMV showcase event which will be emceed by The Voice Australia’s Chang Po Ching.

Each band has already undergone 8 weeks of mentoring from their own musical mentors, themselves esteemed musicians, to show them the ropes and help develop their skills in a professional environment.

YMV founder Ian Grace thanked Council and Seagulls Club for their support for the program, which continues to grow year by year.

“It is just wonderful to see young musical talent recognised and nurtured in a way that fosters skills, personal growth and most importantly lots of confidence in the young people involved,” Mr Grace said.

Council’s Community Development Officer for Youth and Social Planning Amanda Micallef said Council was proud to back the initiative, which gave young people the opportunity to thrive in a unique environment.

“We are proud to support opportunities like Youth Music Venture that support our young people and help them kick goals, whatever they may be,” Ms Micaleff said.

“Not many young people get the opportunity to perform like rock stars in front of a live audience!”

The YMV Showcase Concert will take place on Sunday 18 June, from 2 pm – 5 pm.

For tickets, head to humanitix . Tickets cost $20 for those aged 16 years and over. Under 16s are free. To participate or register visit youthmusicventure.com.au or call Ian Grace on 0424 143 140.
