Murwillumbah’s 50 metre pool reopens for summer

One more step forward in the Tweed’s flood recovery efforts

The 50 metre pool at Murwillumbah is now full and ready for swimmers for the summer season.

Grab your togs and goggles: the 50 metre outdoor swimming pool at the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre’s Murwillumbah complex is full of sparkling blue water again, just in time for the busy summer season.

The 50 m pool and kids' leisure pool are ready to welcome back swimmers, however the giant hill slide and barbecue areas remain closed until further notice.

The outdoor pool has been out of action since sustaining damage in the massive downpour of 28 February 2022, which saw incredible volumes of stormwater pour down Hospital Hill and into the pool.

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said it was great to see another facility back up and running post-flood.

“We know the community are just as excited as we are to see the pool refilled and open for summer,” Cr Cherry said.

“Council would like to thank all of the pool users for their patience while repairs were completed following the floods earlier this year.”

Manager Parks and Active Communities Murray Smith said it was great to provide a place once again for the community to be active and healthy.

“Murwillumbah’s 50m pool is a key facility that provides the community with a chance to stay fit and active and we are pleased to welcome patrons back to enjoy the outdoor pool once again,” Mr Smith said.

“We are also thrilled our local schools will have a place to host their school carnivals for the summer season.”

Several school carnivals have already booked the 50 m pool during December and the community is encouraged to check for any updates on times when the pool may be booked out for a carnival and unavailable.
