Recovery centre to open in Murwillumbah

Services to offer assistance for flood victims

Murwillumbah flooding

A recovery centre to assist Tweed flood victims will open in the Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre auditorium on Saturday from 9 am offering a range of support services.

A recovery centre for Tweed residents and businesses impacted by the recent floods will open Saturday 5 March at the auditorium in the Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre.

Resilience NSW has committed to opening the centre which will initially provide a limited range of services but scaling up as organisations become better resourced.

Hours: 9 am - 5 pm daily

Some of the services which will be available include:

  • Service NSW

  • Services Australia

  • DCJ Housing

  • DPI

  • Legal Aid

  • Chaplaincy

Mayor of Tweed Cr Chris Cherry welcomed the announcement and said the centre would provide a one stop destination for the community seeking support.

“Together with Resilience NSW, Council is doing all it can to help residents and businesses get back on their feet after the worst flood in the Tweed’s recorded history,” Cr Cherry said.

“The centre will allow people seeking government support to find out what is available and how they can access it quickly and easily.”

The recovery centre will be operational in the auditorium next to the Council Chambers after 9 am on Saturday.

A number of local donation centres have been established in Murwillumbah to assist flood victims and accept specific donated items.

These include: 

Evacuation Centre (Murwillumbah TAFE)
146 Murwillumbah Street, Murwillumbah
Seeking donations of clean or new pillows and pillow cases

Tweed Palliative Support Op Shop 
5 Queen Street, Murwillumbah

Can accept any donation – all items free to the community
Open Mon-Fri 8 am – 3:30 pm
This weekend - Saturday and Sunday (free BBQ) 

Clean Up Volunteer Hub
M|Arts Precinct, corner Brisbane and Wollumbin Streets, Murwillumbah
Seeking donations of masks, garden hoses, squeegees, brooms, towels, cleaning supplies

Council has also been advised that GIVIT is working with the NSW Government to manage offers of donated goods, services, volunteering and funds for NSW flood victims.

The organisation with the State Government, will ensure donations are managed to support impacted communities in a targeted manner.
