Tweed emergency water restrictions to lift at midnight

Uki residents still urged to conserve water

Water restrictions will lift across the Tweed at 11.59 pm tonight (with the exception of Uki), meaning businesses can use town water to start the clean-up of our homes and businesses.

Tweed Shire Council will lift emergency water restrictions at 11:59 pm tonight for all parts of the Tweed except Uki, with the Bray Park and Tyalgum water treatment plants back online and water reservoirs now filling.

Council’s Manager Water and Wastewater Operations Brie Jowett said most areas of the Tweed could start using town water outdoors from that time.

“Thanks everyone for conserving water the past 4 days while our crews and Essential Energy staff worked hard to get our water supply network back online,” Ms Jowett said.

“We can now use town water to start the clean-up of our homes and businesses.

“Unfortunately it’s not all good news, with Uki relying on tankers supplying town water once again.”

Council’s boil water alert for Uki, South Murwillumbah south of Alma Street and parts of Dunbible continues to apply.

“If you live in those locations, make sure you boil town and rain water before using it for drinking, preparing food, cleaning your teeth and gargling,” Ms Jowett said.

“Please boil drinking water for your pets too.”
