Council is pleased to announce its first gold medallist for 2021 – our new website.

Council’s freshly minted website, launched at the end of June, has officially been recognised with a Gold PlainLanguagePro accreditation.

The win is an acknowledgement of the new website’s focus on making information easier to find and understand for Tweed residents and businesses.

Plain language expert Dr Judy Gregory who assessed the website said: “Tweed Shire Council’s approach to redesigning its website shows a genuine commitment to clear communication.

“Council used a robust process to understand residents’ information needs and to provide information that’s understandable, findable and usable.”

The new website at tweed.nsw.gov.au features:

  • a fresh, clean look with useful content that is easy to read

  • a mobile-friendly design that looks great on all devices

  • a new search tool that makes information easier to find

  • more photos to showcase the natural beauty of the Tweed.

Director Corporate Services Warren van Wyk said he was proud of the small in-house team that designed and built the new website.

“From day one, we knew we had to put our residents, businesses and visitors at the heart of the project to help them find exactly what they’re looking for regardless of location, age, ability or technology,” he said.

“That is why we ran surveys to listen to their feedback and better understand how we could improve the customer experience.

“We also tested the new website ahead of launching, including focus groups made up of residents, ratepayers, industry, Your Say Tweed subscribers and the Equal Access Advisory Committee.

“We’ll continue listening and making improvements based on the community’s feedback.”

The website has also been officially recognised for its commitment to ensuring it’s accessible to people with a disability.

Dr Scott Hollier, CEO of the Centre for Accessibility who conducted an audit of the website, praised its new accessibility features and functionality.

“Overall the website is in a very good place – in fact I’d say it’s one of the best we’ve ever audited,” Dr Hollier said.

While the experts love our new website, Council would now like to hear from Tweed residents – what do you think? Please share your feedback with us by visiting tweed.nsw.gov.au before 23 August and complete the survey at the bottom of the page.
