Serving up Christmas spirit
24 December 2021
Sharing the festive season spirt was a high priority for invited guests at a Community lunch hosted by Tweed Shire Council at the Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre plaza this month.
The lunch coincided with the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) with delicious food provided by the Brett Street CAFÉ (BSC).
The IDPwP is held each year on 3 December and is a day to celebrate, raise awareness, foster inclusion and promote understanding.
This year's theme was “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”.
Among the invited guests were members of the Tweed Shire Equal Access Advisory Committee and members and staff from Team Lemonade.
Music filled the air and a visit by Santa added to the excitement, generating plenty of atmosphere in the plaza.
The venue has proved to be very popular with organisations appreciating the facilities and the convenience of catering offered by BSC Supervisor Allan Gibson and his team.
BSC is a social enterprise initiative of Tweed Shire Council that generates income to support Community Service programs like MisterChef, Stretch Your Mind and Stand Together.
CAFE stands for Community Access For Everyone and the money you spend here is doing good for people, for the community and for the planet.
BSC is also participating in the Pay It Forward scheme which helps people finding things a little tough.
Money donated goes towards providing a free cup of coffee, snack or even a meal to someone who may not be in a position to afford one.
BSC is open on Christmas Eve from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
It will be closed from Monday 27 December until Friday 7 January 2022 and will reopen with normal trading hours on Tuesday 11 January 2022.
Limited Ready to go meals will be available in January.
