Whether you need a pool safety inspection, a compliance certificate or help registering your pool, we can help.
Booking a pool safety inspection
Arranging a pool safety inspection means Council’s experts will demystify complex pool safety laws for you, and help you understand what you need to do to ensure your pool area is up to standard.
If it turns out that you do need to make changes to your pool area to make it safe, our team will make note of what needs to happen and give you step by step guidance on what you need to do.
This can relate to things like you pool fence and gate, objects nearby your pool such as pot plants and trees, pool tiles and signage.
You can book a pool safety inspection online or contact us on 02 6670 2400.
When do I need a Certificate of Compliance for my pool?
If you’re a pool owner that is selling, renting, or holiday letting your home, it is mandatory if you have a swimming pool or spa that your property has a current Certificate of Compliance. It’s also the law.
Council’s pool safety team offers a reliable and affordable compliance inspection service that will help ensure your pool fencing meets all the required standards. Unlike private certifiers, our team can certify older pools based on their historic legislative requirements.

What if my pool is really old?
If you have an older pool, in most situations you can comply with the rules in force at the time the pool was built.
Unlike private operators, Council is able inspect your older pool fencing using previous legislative requirements - although you will still be encouraged to make the area as safe as possible.
Pool signage
The law requires that you have an up-to-date cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) sign displayed near your pool. The sign must be in good condition and able to be read easily from 3 metres.
It must also be the latest version of the signage, meaning it was printed after the most recent update, which was 1 September 2019.
You can purchase a new CPR sign from either of Council’s administration buildings, in Tweed or Murwillumbah.
Owners of existing pools aren't required to update their resuscitation signage unless the pool barrier is substantially altered or rebuilt.
