Council is thrilled to announce the winners of the ‘Keeping Cats Safe at Home’ expression of interest.
There was a pawsitively incredible response with more than 82 entries received. The judges have carefully reviewed each submission and selected the top winners based on eligibility and assessment criteria which included creative and innovative ideas to promote at-home living for cats and a creative photo of the cat’s indoor life. The Tweed Shire’s enthusiasm and dedication to feline safety truly impressed the project team!

Another 10 runners-up will receive a $100 voucher as a special recognition for their submission.
Feedback from some of the winners highlights the importance of this program and the positive impact it will make.
“Thank you so much! This is awesome! I have never won a competition in my life and so happy I have won this for my kitty. He will be so happy to have some new play equipment or enclosure to help keep him happy as it has been a massive adjustment for him to be indoors all the time,” said the owner of Alfie the cat from Cudgen.
“Oh my gosh, that is amazing! I am currently praising the cat for his efforts - his net worth just went up to $500! I've already chosen an outdoor cat enclosure for him from the Catnets website, it's such fabulous news!” said the owner of Albie the cat from Murwillumbah.
“I can’t wait to get my new cage and make the best life for Dex. I really appreciate it and look forward to hearing from Catnets and start the process of building the new enclosure,” said the owner of Dex the cat from Banora Point.
Creating a safe and enriching environment for cats not only protects them from potential hazards but also allows them to explore, play, and thrive. Outdoor cats face numerous risks, including exposure to diseases, vehicle accidents, and the potential for theft or getting lost.
Keeping cats safe at home also contributes to the preservation of local wildlife populations and is part of Council’s commitment to protecting the Tweed’s internationally significant environment to pass on to our next generation.
Tweed Shire Council partnered with RSPCA NSW on its Keeping Cats Safe at Home campaign about loving cats, celebrating the people who love their cats and motivating cat lovers to keep their feline companions safe and fulfilled.
The NSW-wide project is funded by a $2.5 million grant from the NSW Environmental Trust.
