A new solar array has been installed on Council’s Tweed Heads administration office which is now contributing to powering the building’s operations.
The solar panels are expected to generate approximately 129,800 kWH per year, which is estimated to save as much greenhouse gas emissions as travelling 390,685km per year in an average car.
The new system will save Council and ratepayers approximately $31,152 per year while also helping to protect the Tweed’s environment for current and future generations.
The installation of solar panels is part of Council’s commitment to renewable energy and to meet its targets in the Renewable Energy Action Plan. Council has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its electricity use by 50% by 2025.
