The Kinship Festival is a celebration of Aboriginal art, dance, community and culture for the whole community to enjoy.

The festival committee remains committed to realising the vision and striving towards communicating to the community the meaning of Kinship and the Aboriginal culture that encapsulates culture, belonging, responsibility, participation and connection to land, and people.

To be held at Knox Park on Saturday 24 September 2022 from 10 am to 4 pm, the free community event will promote the theme of Healing – After the Floods.

Being outside in the centre of town, the Kinship Festival, supported by Tweed Shire Council provides an opportunity for people from all walks of life to see and appreciate local indigenous culture that’s alive and thriving.

This year’s festival will feature dance troupes from across the Bundjalung Nation and beyond – with groups travelling from as far as Victoria to join in a celebration of kinship connections.

The Aboriginal artisan markets will feature more than 30 Aboriginal artists and craftspeople from across the region.

It will be an opportunity for lovers of Aboriginal Art to connect and meet with artists and learn their stories.

A highlight of the festival is the Earth Mural – a giant sand, soil and ochre earth mural created on the day by festival participants.

The mural is designed by local Minjungbal artist, Magpie Currie and this year’s artwork is titled ‘Gami Bujurrahm’ (Grandmother Dreaming).

Live music will include Fingal Head locals, The Jacks Band, Johnny Huckle, Kelsey Barker, Robyn Green and the Kinship Collective.

There will also be a healing hub featuring a First Nations healing space and workshops.

A special musical tribute to Stuart Fergie – the OKA frontman who was known and loved by many of the Northern Rivers Community will be held at 2 pm.

There will also be free children’s nature crafts and activities and a free community meal with bush tucker or vegetarian options.
