The Fun Activities for Banora Seniors (FABS) Program celebrated its 15th year with a FABulous bash at Banora Point Community Centre. For fifteen years the program has been offering local seniors a place to share their hobbies and interests and make long lasting friendships along the way.

The celebrations took place to a packed crowd of over 150 local seniors, many of whom have been attending the FAB’s groups since the program began in 2007.

Included in the celebrations were an art show and raffle, delicious afternoon tea and heartfelt speeches from Council staff and the Mayor, Chris Cherry.

“FABS is such a success story. Since it began it has had over 120, 000 attendees across its various programs. When it began it had 300 monthly members and now, they have over 1000,” she said.

“Council values the contributions seniors make to our community."

FABS was born from a request from the local community for more social opportunities for local seniors. The thriving program now offers a range of hobby and interest groups for seniors to get involved in, from family history groups, gentle exercise and Qigong to scrapbooking, mosaics, crochet and more!

In attendance at the celebration was Annie Kerr (pictured) who is the oldest and longest serving member of FABS. At 96 years young, Annie attends yoga and gentle exercise - and has also volunteered her time at many FABS events such as Christmas dinners and morning teas.

“It’s wonderful,” she says of her time with the program.
